Twins just completed a 9 game homestand in which I saw 5 1/2 games. I'm not counting the suspended Yankee game as a loss seeing as it wasn't a game in which I had a ticket for. That leaves my Twins record at 6-6 thus far.

meanwhile over at Midway, there hasn't been alot going on. Saints have been on the road. They had a brief stop in St. Paul for a 3 game set vs. Sioux Falls where they found out they have a ways to go to compete with the upper echelon in the American Association. They had a gritty win on Sat. followed by a loss on Sunday night. A quick game on Sat. led to a nice 10th Inning Stretch where I was still able to get home at a decent hour.........for once. Sunday was Fireworks night at the ballpark. I was able to get Amy and the kids in to watch the game from Casa Robson. The fireworks were excellent and the traffic jam didn't disappoint either. Won't be back there until June 12 when Sioux Falls is once again in town. (Calling all A Polers).

In concluding, I'd like to take this time to wish a speedy recovery from fellow Saints fanatic and more importantly good friend Bill Tyler. He recently had surgery and is now home recovering and watching some baseball I'm sure. We miss you and can't wait till you're back with us at the park again.

Opening Weekend....

Opening night was nearly 40 degrees cooler than Opening night a year ago as the Saints entertained the Wichita Wingnuts. That wouldn't deter approximately 2500 people from seeing the Saints win the Opener over the Wichita Wingnuts.

Saturday was as good of weather as you can ask for in mid May. Got out to the ballpark at 3:30 just in case there was a line for the Cougar bobblehead. No such line was found until about 15 minutes before the gates opened. The bobblehead was as bad as I expected it to be, but a good night was to be had as I got to see some friends that I haven't seen in quite a while. The ballpark is starting to feel like home again.

I'll be out on Tuesday night for Magnet Schedule night as Lincoln comes to town for a 3 game set. Until then, keep your beer on the ice.

A new season is upon us.

As I look out the window here at 10th Inning Stretch corporate headquarters here in Faribault, MN, it looks like another gloomy damp cold day. Hard to believe the Saints home season commences in a little over 24 hours. I keep procrastinating on getting the car loaded with my tailgating gear, knowing full well that I'm going to forget something. The 10th Inning Stretch T-shirts never left the car (never know when a sale is going to appear). I'm hedging on whether I'm going to do T-Shirts for this season. Got a bunch of last years left over, and well a few from 2 years ago. If I had enough preorders where I know we'd be in the black on them and able to use them as a significant fundraiser, I'll do it. Otherwise, I may have to take a year off and try to sell what I already have.

I've already got 7 Twins games under my belt for the season (3-4 record so far, sorry) , so it won't be an adjustment to get into baseball mode with the Saints. Target Field is very nice, the food selection is quite diverse, but I sure would like to be tailgating in Minneapolis before games.

I'll be out at the 10th pregame tomorrow ($1 beers) and Sat. unless there is some sort of line for the "cougar" bobbleheads then I may be tailgating in a line. There will be a postgame 10th on Saturday night. Stop on out, plenty of good seats available for the games.

An August baseball vacation.

So the 10th went on the road this week, back out to Sioux Falls. The South Dakota weather Gods decided that I should be greeted with 92 degree heat. I cruised out on Wed. Afternoon after work, breaking the speed limit and texting while driving laws. Thanks for all the Jackson banter from my facebook buddies. It kept me going during a dull trip on I-90. Only had time to drink some dinner at the A Pole before going in and enjoying my first Landsharks at the Bud Bar. Scored a front row seat by the Saints on deck circle to witness a Wednesday night Saints win complete with dollar hot dogs. Retreated back to the Anderson residence for a night cap while watching the Blues Brothers.

Thursday was a great afternoon to stay indoors as late as possible. Enjoyed some High Def Twins action, until the Royals decided to punish the swooning Minnesota club. Went to the A Pole to attempt Chicken Tacos. Didn't go as well as I hoped. The shells I bought sucked and the chicken cooked too long. Live and learn, right? From a front row seat again, the Saints fell to a Pat Mahomes pitching clinic. At least it was a quick defeat, leaving plenty of time to hang out at the A Pole, being seranaded from a distance by the Alice Cooper concert. After a night cap at the Attic, it was time to rest up for the trip home.

On Friday I got my bobbleheads bought that I needed, and cruised back to Minnesota. Got the urge around Fairmont to head up to the Saints game. If I knew how bad the game was going to be, I would've saved the trip. Though it was fun to pull the trip off.

Saturday featured a Lunch Box giveaway, drunken Viking fans that got escorted out by 4 cops, a Saints lead and subsequent choke job before Mother Nature decided to end the proceedings with a massive downpour. Seemed appropriate.

Sunday, it was on to Rochester for the final game of the Northwoods League Championship. Seeing as I'm not going to see any playoff ball from my normal teams of choice, I latched on to the Honkers bandwagon a little more than normal. It was a great ballgame, well played with tons of suspense, just like a good title game should. The crowd was nearly 50/50 with Honkers and LaCrosse Logger fans. It reminded me of the great St. Paul Saint fan invasion of Rochester for the 1993 Northern League playoffs. It made for a great atmosphere with the Honkers eventually winning their 5th league title by a 7-4 score.

Only 7 Saints home games left, I'll be at 5 of them. Plenty of 10th Inning Stretch T-Shirts available, only $12. Proceeds benefitting Autism Awareness.

Until next time, keep your beer on the ice.

Just catching up.

Since the last time I checked in there really hasn't been too much eventful going down. I've only been to 3 Saints games in July so not much to report.
July 2 was fireworks night #2 of the season. An overflow crowd resulted in another appearance from our old friend Orange Fencing. I can't wait till we get a new ballpark so we don't have to do such rinky dink things to get a crowd in the ballpark. Of course a 9000+ crowd led to a postgame traffic jam for the ages. I got to lay down on the outfield grass to watch the fireworks. If anyone is reading this, if you get a chance to do this, I highly recommend it.
July 10 saw the 10th Inning Stretch move from its usual location for the weekend. It was fun to mix it up a bit, see how things are in other parts of the parking lot. I joined the Peta gang in the NE corner of the lot. I gotta say, having porta potties that are hardly used is a good selling point for a 10th relocation. We celebrated a 40th Birthday in the lot on Saturday night. I joined the Millers for a beer or two before heading out on Saturday. I'm joining them on the 25th. It was fun to move around, and I'm looking forward to doing it again. Till next time, keep your coals in the grill.

The wheels are moving but the car isn't!!

The headline kind of summarizes the 10th Inning Stretch thus far in 2009. Not much to report as far as any eventful 10ths since the last posting. We're staring at July 1 tomorrow, and we're at $82.75 for the season, including me bringing it to Miller Park for the Twins series last week. I'm proud of that and proud of everyone that's made that happen. Unfortunately the shirt sales have lagged a bit, although a special thanks is in order to Rob for pushing for some sales in Ft. Worth. Economy, 2nd year in a row with a new design (deemed as a controversial design by some), me not being aggresive enough in selling? Whatever it is, hopefully we can overcome and still hit our goal of $500 raised for Autism Awareness.

With that, I announce this. The first ever 10th Inning Stretchapalooza. I will be hosting it from my humble home in Faribault, Minnesota. It coincides with my bi annual "Greatest Worst Party Ever". (406 Conliffe Ave. S.W. for those wishing to google directions).

It will be on Saturday July 18, from 4 pm till ????. What we will do on this evening is put a quarter in the Piggy Bank for every beer we drink at the party. It will be a primo opportunity to sell T-Shirts for those who have yet to buy them. In keeping with the "Greatest Worst Party Ever" theme, I will provide a hot grill. Bring your choice of dinner, beverages for the night, along with a dish for a potluck if you wish.

I have plenty of yard space for you out of towners to camp out in, my house is rather small, so I don't have much flop space in the house.

I hope most (not expecting you Texas folks to make the trip) reading this will circle this date on your calendars and enjoy a fine evening of food, fun, and fundraising.

OK, my next topic is the Metrodome/Target Field. My gal and I were talking on Sunday about the Racing Sausages and Bernies Slide at Miller Park, Ivy and ambience at Wrigley, waterfalls in Kansas City, the Mile High row in Colorado and other ballpark novelties. It occurred to us, what did the Metrodome have and what will Target Field have that will separate theirselves from being just another ballpark? Sure the Metrodome has its quirks but nothing that was a positive. Hormel Row of Fame? Dodgeball? Puhlease!!!!!!!!! Lame-O all the way. Anyways, time will tell, next 10th Inning Stretch comes July 2nd, Fireworks from Midway Stadium.

A synopsis of the opening homestand.

Well, there's alot to cover so I'll do things in chronological order.

Opening night, complete with 98 degree weather was on Tuesday night. It didn't seem as hot with the wind blowing, but I think a few tailgaters may have been blinded by my ghostly colored legs. A couple of friends stopped by the 10th for pregame cocktails, the game was a letdown with the Saints dropping the opener.

Next game was on Thursday with our good friend from Ft. Worth, Rob, paying us a visit. Always good to see Rob and find out how things are in Texas, talk some puck, some baseball, grill up those delicious Ballpark Franks and hang out. I'll leave the details of the traffic driving up in order to keep the positive vibe going. The Saints salvaged the last game of a 3 game set with Lincoln, bringing out the victory horn for the first time. Had a few after the game with Bill and Rob and it made for a low energy day of work on Friday.

Saturday brought out the well publicized Recount bobblehead. Got to the park at 2pm and saw a decent sized line already. It was all good as we were still about 30th in line and were postitioned in the shade and close to the car. I got to see the new 10th Inning Stretch shirts. Gotta say they are pretty sharp. I hope we can have a sellout on them. The Saints won a rhubarb filled game over Sioux Falls 8-3. A few Canaries were tossed in the 6th inning. Bill and I had our good friend Jim join us before and after the game and Seigo Masabuchi paid us a brief visit at the 10th. We closed the lot at midnight.

Sunday brought more gorgeous weather. After going to Ft. Snelling Cemetary to leave flowers at Amy's grandparents gravesite, we arrived at the park to see Bill napping in the 'Bug. Who are we to wake a sleeping man. I finally woke him with a "Bill, Dinner's ready!!". Just like yesterday, Aaron joined us pregame, I always enjoy his contributions to the 10th. Our good neighbors from Stacy, MN gave us sample of bear sausage, pretty tasty. The Saints won again, the fireworks were awesome to watch with the prism glasses on that they gave out. The 10th was on again, public address announcer Joe Wiener joined us for a beer, and we all talked quantam physics......just kidding, but close. We had a good conversation about Sesame Street. Goes to show that you never know what'll happen at the 10th Inning Stretch. Till next time, Cheers.

P.S. T-Shirts are available, only $12 apiece with proceeds benefitting Autism Awareness.

Here, here we go again, here we go again.

Sorry, got that catchy tune stuck in my head. Well, Thursday is the Home Exhibition Opener and I'm excited to get back in the baseball swing of things once again. Of course, it'll be the exhibition opener for the 1oth Inning Stretch too. Sounds like my peeps are coming out, if the scattered showers don't hit, it should be a fun one.

On the shirts front. I have the idea for what I want done for the shirts, but need to get the order sent and figure out a way to make the initial investment. I'm trying to sell leftover shirts from last year on Ebay and I've had some luck. I may try this route for selling the new ones too, for the benefit of my friends that live elsewhere in the US.

That's all I got for now, Go Saints!!!

and that's a wrap..........

I was and still am in denial that summer is coming to an end, therefore I didn't want to make a summary blog until I had to, but here it goes.

The gang at the 10th raised $360 dollars for Autism Awareness. Never thought we could do it, now lets shoot for $400 next season. We will hopefully have shirts by Opening Day next season. The 10th closed up shop for the season not at Midway but at Miller Park. For those who have tailgated but never in Milwaukee, it's an experience that needs to be done. It blows away anything that is done in St. Paul.

In addition to new shirts, I'm an going to try to collect some autographed items to have available throughout the season via Silent Auction.

So until next season, Midway Tailgater has left the Parking Lot.

10th Inning Stretch to Walk for Autism

I am participating in Walk Now for Autism to help find a cure for autism. Autism is the second most common developmental disorder in the United States affecting one in every 150 children born today. Despite some promising discoveries, the cause of autism is unknown and a cure does not exist. Research is crucial. Every 20 minutes another child is diagnosed with autism. Not only must we find ways to improve the quality of life for children and adults with autism, but we also must find a cure, and soon.
Walk Now for Autism is our chance to make a difference in the fight against autism by raising money for autism research and heightening public awareness. Please join me in my fight as I raise $200.00 to help fund essential research. I will be walking on Sept. 20 at Canterbury Park and would like you to support those affected by autism. You can donate to Walk Now for Autism and join my team online through my webpage at www.walknowforautism.org. Donations can also be mailed to Autism Speaks using the donation form located on my page or send me a check made out to Autism Speaks. My team name is "Walking for Nicholas"; please note this on your check and the donation form.
Please join me in my fight against autism. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the more than 1 million Americans living with autism today.

Sincerely,
Kevin Luckow

ie Midway Tailgater

P.S. Just wasn't meant to be this year. Injuries and signing amongst things have hampered the Saints.

Since I last checked in, there were a few eventful evenings at the ballpark. First of all, the Saints fanbase was called out for being "casual" and in ways rightly so by a Wichita sportswriter. I challenged him and his travelling party to join us at the 10th so we could prove that indeed there were hardcore fans in St. Paul. We had fun visiting with them and Bill made sure they had goodies to take back home to Kansas. That night there was at one time 14 of us tailgating. I like having the big crew, but in a way I don't because it's hard to get around to talking to everyone.

A week or so later was bobblelection. Due to the setup, we based pregame grilling operations up by the main entrance. We got our grilling done just in time to scramble all of our gear back to the car and stood in line to get our presidential bobbles. Kind of chaotic but something that only needs to be done a couple of times a season.

Last night was PETA night, they invade our area for a better location to sell shirts but are kind enough to let us have our few spots. I had pheasant, and vennision meatballs along with our standard tailgating fare. Sold another shirt (still have some for sale), and upon counting up our totals today we have now raised $307.50 to help raise Autism Awareness.

Catching up with things, again.

I know, it's been awhile since blogs. Heck I don't even know if anybody is reading these things anyway, feels like I'm writing a diary. Anyway it's getting close to the Dog Days of Summer. I've been on vacation this week. I once again conquered the A Pole on my trip to Sioux Falls. Back home it was the AA All Star Game on Tuesday, complete with a nice visit at the 10th after the game with a couple from Grand Prairie.

Last night was uneventful other than saving someone elses grillout with my expertise. Afterwards I started wondering if burnout was setting in. Today I woke up, counted the Quarters For A Cure money and saw we have now raised $222.75 for the season, now I got a bit of pep back in my step.

Sorry for falling behind.

Sorry for becoming what I dreaded becoming, one of those bloggers that fall behind. I just haven't got around to this for awhile. So, I finally experienced a day game once again. I found out why I shy away from those games, it turns into a lllllllllllooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggg day. I did sell a couple of shirts, but didn't leave the parking lot till 7:45. Folks, the game was done by 4 pm, so yea, long day.

The 4th of July weekend saw a long weekend of games for me. The annual July 3rd game was rather uneventful. Although in spite of the fact I had to work at 6 am on the 4th, I stayed at the 10th till 11. The 4th featured good fireworks, unfortunately another Saints loss, and the GF and family at the 10th. Another classic Midway Stadium traffic jam followed the fireworks. Saturday night saw the Saints get back on track, my friends from Florida paid a visit for the 1 st time in a couple of years. We took another family photo for the myspace page, and stayed in the lot till a little after 1 am. Thank goodness for that nap till 2 pm on Saturday.

Wait till next half.

It was yet again another interesting night at the 10th and Midway Stadium. Gotta say I was disappointed that the Peta people took my parking spot. Plus them selling Peta Shirts killed any potential 10th Inning Stretch shirt sales I'd have for the night. We were not too far away from the normal parking spot, but still, geesh, sell them from your own neighborhood!!!

We were joined by a couple of friends by surprise and they got to meet my GF for the first time.
The game didn't go well for the Saints and now barring a collapse by Sioux Falls, the Saints will have to try to make it in the playoffs during the 2nd half.

Afterwards things got real fun. We ended up dancing, karaoking, and horn blowing to Fight for your Right with total strangers. Goes to show that you never know what will happen at the 10th.

Milwaukee trip AKA Explore Wisconsin.

Well I took in the Twins-Brewers series from Miller Park over the weekend. Due to the flooding, a 5 hour trip turned into 8 hours with a ton of detours. We still got to the park in time to tailgate but had to postpone the Miller Brewing tour till Saturday. There is something so peaceful tailgating after a game out there. It's like you're in the middle of a frat party before the game, but eventually the rowdies retreat to the bar and the silence while drinking beer is so peaceful. We joined Joe Christensen of the Star Tribune (friends since we were kids) who had 2 flights cancelled on him Friday at Houlihans for some late night apps and brews. Safe to say it was a day chaotic enough to justify celebrating the finish of.

Saturday was once again beautiful weather. We toured Miller Brewing and proceeded with no delay to the ballpark to tailgate. Clouds rolled in and we got into the covered Miller Park right before the downpour ensued. The Twins win in front of an energized and intoxicated full house in 12 innings. We tailgated afterwards and watched some Twins fans occupy theirselves by having a guy pull his pants down and having his friend wind up and crack him across the ass with his hand. No wonder Minnesotans are so frowned upon in Wisconsin. We felt like we were watching Jackass. We once again joined Joe at Houlihans for some night caps and rehashed what was a game full of second guessing.

Sunday was postcard weather. Finally right before gametime they opened the roof. The Brewers avoided the sweep and we bugged out right after the game. We took the scenic route to Beloit and up to Madison to avoid the closed part of West I94. It took an hour longer but at least we were moving all the time. Got home safe and sound. Once again a memorable trip to Miller Park.

Saints win and T-shirt sales begin.

What a night once again at the ol' ballpark. I got up there at about 3:15 which helped me have plenty to drink by gametime. Am I supposed to do that on blood pressure medication? In a back and forth game that had many twists including a bone headed decision by Wichita to intentionally walk a #9 batter and a blown GW call by an umpire, the Saints won 5-4.

Mike and Shannon delivered the 10th Inning Stretch T-Shirts. Saturday saw the appearance of Rob and Terri from Ft. Worth. It's always fun to host fans from across the US and the Ft. Worth fans are amongst the most loyal. It sure would be fun to get down there and see how it's done and see if we could bring some 10th Inning Stretch flavor to the South. Craig and Dave were present on Saturday night also, Craig with his MOUND of sauerkraut.

Saturday nights game was loss #4 in a row for the Saints with the horn making only one in game appearance for a Jason Colson home run.

Sunday was a long day to say the least. Started off with having to wait in line for the infamous Sen. Craig Bobblefoot. Just looked at it today, nothing too special. Fortunately I chose not to light up the grill due to the black clouds rolling in at 5 pm. I probably would've had been hit by my own grill blowing across the lot. Wow, were the winds strong. Bent the crap out my umbrella, being used to block wind and dirt and not rain. We survived. Had a nice grill out with Kielbasa, steak, and chicken with veggies. Game started and the Saints offense finally got some clutch hits and along with spotty Ft. Worth pitching and fielding came out with a 9-3 victory followed by traditionally excellent Saints fireworks. Well the 10th went longer than expected. The conversation was too good, I didn't want to go home but a guy has to make a living, and 6 am was coming too soon, so we said our goodbyes and wished everyone safe travels and went home.

No more 10th's for 2 weeks now, but by then the shirts will be ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blog ya later,

Midway Tailgater.

High winds cause damage at the 10th.

It wasn't a good start to the night at the 10th. Twice the winds blew my lawnchair over. First time it was into the piggy bank that holds our beer can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, shattering that bank. As I was disposing of that, the chair blew over into the grill causing a nice big hole in the middle of the chair (insert gassy punchline here). Fortunately my bad karma didn't spread to the Saints as they beat the Sioux City Explorers by a 7-2 score in front of a sparse crowd. The victory featured the in stadium debut of the victory horn. I will be bringing my horn into the park to celebrate victories. Kind of like Lake Superior State hockey does with the Victory Bell.

So far, so good.........

Considering it's early May and all, it was a good first two nights for Saints baseball and the 10th Inning Stretch. Starting with Thursday nights festivities including seeing a few of my Wild.com Message Board buddies, Cody Lyman (last years PA guy), Jo Jo the Balloon Guy from quite a few years ago, and Wally the Beerman stopped by and gave us a bunch of Canterbury Park passes. The weather was just warm enough to be comfortable. We enjoyed the $1 Glueks beers immensely. The crowd was small as expected but the Saints rallied late and pulled away for an Opening night victory.

Friday saw a couple of friends from St. Paul meeting me in the parking lot. They come out just to tailgate and hang out then head home when the game begins. The weather was once again just warm enough to make it bearable to be outside for baseball. Justin Lord was strong going 6 1/3 and the offense was strong again. Saints were 2-0 for the season. After the game the fun started. I had a ton of sushi in my cooler to give to Seigo, he stopped out afterwards and took all of it with him. It was good to see him happy with it all. It may be grocery store sushi, but he doesn't look a gift horse in the mouth. Then a couple of other friends stopped by and I may have brokered a deal to get new 10th Inning Stretch Shirts made, with profits going to fight Autism. I hope it works out, I'll blog details of when and how much the shirts will cost. That's all for now folks. Saints go on a week long road trip, back at Midway next week.

A new beginning.....

Well.... Opening day is coming up Thursday. There isn't really much suspense as to who will make the Saints out of training camp, the suspense will be in how soon the team chemistry forms on and off the field. Dang they've come so close the last couple of seasons, they just can't quite beat the Ft. Worth Cats. Anyway it's a new start. I'm thinking it may be a new start for me as it pertains to grilling equipment. Sunday showed that it's time for a new grill and, this is a biggy, a new car. Anyway, for those coming out, I should be in the lot by 5 pm. Look me up, there won't be a 10th due to me having to work at 6 am on Friday. Let's Play Ball!!!!!!!

Every dog has its day......

............and that day will be Sunday at Midway Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Sunday sounds like it'll be the only decent weather day of the weekend. I should be in the lot at 11 am. For those new to this, we congregate in the 3 row of parking spots 5 spaces in from the sidewalk. Just drive to the charcoal bin and swing a left.

I'll have my pugbull with. Without being able to read a dog's mind, I can tell she enjoys going to the game and seems to ham it up for everyone she meets. Just gets a little grouchy with other dogs at times. She was in the Doggy Dating Game last year, but seemed more interested in someones nachos instead of barking into a microphone.

And here we go......

For those who are new, let me explain what the 10th Inning Stretch is. It's technically not a bar or a restaurant it is well......the area behind my car where we tailgate before and after St. Paul Saints games. Living in Faribault, MN doesn't provide me the opportunity to go to all the Saints games, but I do make it up quite a bit. The "10th" was formed in part because we don't exactly like leaving Saints games upon the completion, nor do we enjoy sitting in the parking lot that's supposed to be Energy Park DRIVE. We decided to sit around, enjoy the night, have a few beers and rehash the days'/nights' action.

It has grown throughout the years. We have a sign that I make every year that everyone has to sign upon attending the 10th for the 1st time every season. It's turned into quite a collection of signs. We at the 10th, starting last season, have decided to raise money for charity. The deal is, with every beer drank at the 10th before or after a game, we put a quarter in a piggy bank. At the year we donate the money to charity. Last year the Epilepsy Foundation was the recipient of $134, and this year we are raising money to help fight Autism. We didn't start donating till June last year, so with us starting at the beginning of the season this year, I'm excited to see how much we raise.

So if you're attending a St. Paul Saints game this year, check the blog for dates I'll be appearing and plan on joining us at the 10th.
